**Pros and Cons of Buying GM 3933847 Rocker Panel Moldings for a 1966 Corvette**

**Pros:**

1. **Authenticity and Fit:** These moldings are specifically designed for the 1966 Corvette, ensuring an exact fit and proper alignment with the body. Original or high-quality reproduction parts are crucial for maintaining the vehicle s authenticity and structural integrity.

2. **Aesthetic Restoration:** If the current rocker panel moldings are damaged, cracked, or faded, replacing them with these OEM-style parts will significantly improve the car s appearance. A well-maintained exterior enhances the overall value and appeal of the vehicle.

3. **Protection and Durability:** Rocker panel moldings serve a functional purpose by shielding the lower body panels from road debris, minor impacts, and environmental damage. Replacing worn or missing moldings helps preserve the underlying metal from corrosion and wear.

4. **Increased Resale Value:** For enthusiasts and collectors, a 1966 Corvette with original or restored factory-correct components retains higher resale value. Potential buyers especially those seeking showroom-quality cars will appreciate the attention to detail.

5. **Ease of Installation:** While installation may require some effort (especially for a DIYer), these moldings are designed to be compatible with the 1966 Corvette s body structure. Proper installation guides and tools are widely available, making the process more straightforward than restoring other complex components.

6. **Prevents Further Damage:** Ignoring damaged moldings can lead to rust spreading into the rocker panels, compromising the car s structural integrity. Addressing the issue early prevents costly repairs down the line.

7. **Customization Options:** While these are OEM-style parts, some aftermarket suppliers offer variations in color or finish (e.g., black, silver, or painted to match the body). This allows for subtle customization while staying true to the original design intent.

---

**Cons:**

1. **Cost:** OEM or high-quality reproduction parts can be expensive, especially if sourced from specialty suppliers or restored to original condition. The price may be prohibitive for budget-conscious buyers or those prioritizing other restoration projects.

2. **Availability and Lead Times:** Depending on the supplier, these moldings may not be in stock, requiring backorders or extended wait times. Some sellers may also charge additional fees for shipping or handling, adding to the total cost.

3. **Installation Challenges:** While the parts fit the 1966 Corvette, installation may require disassembling other components (e.g., side markers, window regulators, or trim) to access the rocker panels. Inexperienced installers might struggle with alignment, gaps, or securing the moldings properly, leading to a less polished finish.

4. **Compatibility with Modifications:** If the Corvette has been modified (e.g., lowered suspension, widened fenders, or aftermarket body kits), the OEM moldings may not align perfectly. Custom moldings or adjustments might be necessary, adding complexity and cost.

5. **Maintenance Over Time:** Even with proper installation, rocker panel moldings can chip, crack, or peel over time due to UV exposure, road salt, or physical damage. Future repairs or replacements may be needed, requiring ongoing investment.

6. **Misleading "OEM" Parts:** Some sellers market parts as "OEM" or "original" when they are actually reproductions or aftermarket copies. It s essential to verify the authenticity and quality of the moldings to avoid purchasing low-grade replacements that may not hold up or look authentic.

7. **Time-Consuming Process:** Restoring or replacing rocker panel moldings is a labor-intensive task that may take several hours or even days, depending on the buyer s experience. This time commitment could delay other restoration or maintenance projects.

---

**Conclusion:**

The decision to purchase GM 3933847 rocker panel moldings for a 1966 Corvette depends on your priorities, budget, and long-term goals for the vehicle. If authenticity, aesthetics, and long-term protection are top concerns, these moldings are a worthwhile investment. They contribute to the car s structural integrity, resale value, and overall appeal, making them a key component for any serious restoration or maintenance project.

However, if cost, time, or installation challenges are significant barriers, you may need to weigh the urgency of the repair against other restoration priorities. In some cases, temporary fixes (e.g., body filler or aftermarket moldings) could be considered as a short-term solution while saving for higher-quality parts.

---

**Recommendation:**

For owners of a 1966 Corvette who are committed to preserving or restoring the vehicle to factory-correct condition, **purchasing authentic or high-quality reproduction rocker panel moldings is strongly recommended**. Prioritize sourcing parts from reputable suppliers (such as Corvette specialty shops, eBay verified sellers, or trusted aftermarket brands like *Corvette Restoration Parts* or *Restomods*) to ensure quality and compatibility.

If budget is a constraint, consider:

- Buying used moldings from reliable sellers (e.g., restoration forums, classifieds) to reduce upfront costs.

- Combining this project with other restoration tasks to spread out expenses over time.

- Consulting with a Corvette restoration expert for guidance on installation techniques or alternative solutions.

Ultimately, the rocker panel moldings are a small but meaningful detail that enhances both the function and beauty of the car. For enthusiasts, the effort and cost are justified by the tangible improvements to the vehicle s condition and legacy.

Details:

For 1966, they have a distinctly ribbed design with prominently black background and six thin silver ribs. There is one spot on each molding that has scraped against something. These show pretty average wear and tear. The only other thing that wrong is at one end, someone made a couple of extra screw holes to hold the molding in place.

These are pretty dirty, but mostly straight and true with no major bends or kinks. Some of the mounting surfaces around holes are bent slightly, but they easy to repair. Each year of the C2 mid-year cars had different rocker panel designs. The other spot is on lower side of the piece toward middle where it marked mounting flange and lowest rib.

The GM part number is #3933847. One is a small spot on the lower side of one corner where it looks like somebody got too close to curb. Original pair of 1966 Corvette rocker panel moldings. I tried to show these spots in the photos.
